- Ask friends and relatives to each bring a dish to contribute to the meal or stock up the freezer with party food. It's not worth ruining the day by being tied to the kitchen.
- Christmas is a time for family (and for volcanic arguments). Don't take the bait if someone's niggling you - have another mince pie and sort out any differences after the holiday. Just stay for a few hours, make your excuses and go!
